What is an Active Shooter?

Active shooters and mass shootings are on the rise in the United States. An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. Active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes. You must be prepared to deal with an active shooter situation before law enforcement arrives on the scene. In this course, we will explain the good practices for coping with an active shooter.

Three examples of Active Shooter and Mass Shooting

November 1, 2013: LAX shooting in Los Angeles, California: 1 dead, 3 injured

A twenty-three-year-old man, opened fire with a rifle, killing a U.S. government Transportation Security Administration officer and injuring several other people at the Los Angeles International Airport, California.
The gunman was wounded in a shootout with airport police and taken into custody.

January 6, 2017: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Florida: 5 dead, 6 injured

A mass shooting occurred at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport in Broward County, Florida. 5 people were killed and 6 were injured. The gunman was taken into custody within several minutes after he started shooting.

April 16, 2021: San Antonio Airport, Texas: 1 dead, 0 injured

 An attempted mass shooting outside the San Antonio International Airport was prevented by a police officer in San Antonio, Texas. The man was shot and later died in hospital.

About:
An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. Active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes.

The Active Shooter training course is designed to help trainees to deal with an active shooter situation before law enforcement arrives on the scene. In this course, we will explain the good practices for coping with an active shooter and measures to prevent additional injury and or loss of life in an airport environment.

Duration: 15 min.

1. What is the profile of an active shooter.
2. What are the behavioral indicators.
3. How to react if this situation occurs.
4. In the last resort, how to act against the shooter.
5. How to Respond When Law Enforcement Arrive?
