Hazmat Ground Shipper Training – Stay Compliant, Ship Safely
Shipping hazardous materials by ground in the United States requires strict compliance with federal regulations to ensure the safety of people, property, and the environment. The US Department of Transportation (DOT) mandates that all hazmat ground shippers are properly trained and certified before offering hazardous materials for transport.
Why Hazmat Ground Shipper Training Is Mandatory
Under Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR), any employee who prepares, offers, or transports hazardous materials by ground must complete hazmat training. This training covers critical topics such as:
Proper classification and identification of hazardous materials
Packaging, marking, and labeling requirements
Completion of shipping papers and documentation
Emergency response procedures
Carrier-specific requirements (FedEx, UPS, USPS, DHL)
Training must be renewed every three years, and failing to comply can result in significant fines-up to $238,000 per violation in 2025 for serious offenses.
